회계, 경영 등 상경계 전공에 비하여, 비자 발급이 비교적 용이한 STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)을 전공하는 비율이 크게 높아졌습니다. “You can't judge a book by its cover. 기업별 인터뷰 질문에 대해서는 온라인에서 많이 찾아볼 수 있음 자료원: CESNA 담당자 인터뷰, 금융업체 인사 담당자 인터뷰, KOTRA 달라스 무역관 의견 종합 < 저작권자 ⓒ KOTRA & KOTRA 해외시장뉴스 > Read more : https://dream.kotra.or.kr/kotranews/cms/news/actionKotraBoardDetail.do?SITE_NO=3&MENU_ID=110&CONTENTS_NO=1&bbsGbn=245&bbsSn=245&pNttSn=167251- English Version -What are the U.S. job searching strategy- Acquiring expertise, language learning, and strategic support are essential for U.S. employment. -- Unique cover letter, need to be prepared for a faithful interview -[About CESNA Recruitment Group]Founded in Seoul in 1999, it operates nine offices in five countries, including the United States and China. It was the first Korean headhunting company to successfully enter the U.S. in 2003, and is providing human resources and employment information services to Korean students and Korean companies in the U.S.[Summary of the interview with CESNA Recruitment]In an interview with a person in charge of CESNA, a Korean headhunting company, and a human resources manager at a U.S. financial company, one of the Fortune 500 companies, we talked about questions and listened to advice from those who dream of getting a job in the U.S. Q1. What are the advantages of getting a job in the United States? A1. There are fewer restrictions on promotion based on individual capabilities. Different jobs may vary in different fields, but even with the same annual salary, the salary is different and there are fewer restrictions on promotion based on the recognition of the ability. There are many opportunities to move on to other fields and build a career due to the brisk turnover. Q2. What is the difference between the U.S. recruitment process and the Korean recruitment process? I would say that there are relatively more steps to go through. In Korea, there are usually two or three interviews, but in the U.S., the time itself is long, and there can be interviews up to five or more. There can also be an in-depth background check. In addition, if Korea has a public recruitment system that draws a large number of people annually and distributes them to each position, the United States does not have a public recruitment system, but rather employs them according to each position. That's why in-depth interviews with appropriate positions are important. Q3. Is there a relatively advantageous field for foreigners to get a job? A3. I think it's IT and engineering. There are technical aspects, but there are linguistic reasons. IT and engineering are necessary in terms of language as well, but with good technology, they are areas that can sufficiently cover language problems. However, in order to build up experience and reach a higher position, it is of course necessary to develop linguistic aspects as well. As employment in the U.S. has become more difficult, interest in majors with a high chance of getting a job seems to be growing. In addition, a noticeable big change is the increased tendency to choose a major to extend a visa. Compared to business majors such as accounting and management, the proportion of majors in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), which are relatively easy to obtain visas, has increased significantly. Even if you are not majoring in STEM, you can often see it as a minor. Q4. Is there a good way to prepare for an interview? A4. There are no set rules for interviewing. There may be nonsense questions, and questions about jobs vary greatly depending on each company and position, so it will be necessary to prepare for each company and position. Q5. What do you think is the most important thing for job seekers? A5. Personally, I think active participation is very important. I should be prepared so that I don't miss the opportunity. Also, you should be able to learn information about the company you applied for and show it at the interview. An interview is a place where you promote yourself, so you should be proactive and show why you are necessary for this company. Q6. Any advice for people preparing to get a job in the US? A6. At the moment, the visa issue seems to be the biggest and most urgent thing to do with U.S. employment, but as far as each individual can, they should stick to the basics as much as possible. Americans are also applying to various companies for employment. In particular, if you want to get a job in the United States as a foreigner, it is recommended not to be discouraged and apply a lot. The information we can obtain is limited, so even if we don't officially support visa issuance, sometimes visa issuance is supported depending on the situation, so knocking on the door here and there will increase your chances of getting a job. Also, if you are given an interview opportunity, it can be a practice for the next opportunity, so it is important to apply to many companies and have hands-on experience. □ Summary of interviews with HR representatives at major U.S. financial companies Q1. What is the status of foreign employment in your company? A1. Discrimination based on gender, nationality, and race is prohibited, and we do not have exact statistics on foreigners (visa holders). However, since our company does not officially currently offer visa sponsorships, we have U.S. citizens or visa holders who can work in the U.S. Personally, the high percentage of Asians in the IT department is noticeable. Q2. Is there a high demand for new employees? A2. In most cases, we prefer applicants with experience. However, if you have sufficient knowledge and experience in the relevant work through internships, volunteering, and club activities, I think freshly graduated job seekers will be able to make up for some weaknesses. Q3. What should I pay attention to during the application process? A3. A unique and well-organized cover letter is very important. It's a great way to highlight the strengths of an applicant that you can't tell your company about with your resume. Surprisingly, only a small number of applicants spend their time writing unique cover letters, which is not desirable. Even if the content of your resume is not that good, you can be a standout candidate with a cover letter. There's a saying that goes, "You can't judge by its cover." However, cover letters are very important because they determine your applicants' first impressions, just like the cover of a book. Q4. What are the main questions during the interview? A4. There's a common question not only for me but also for the financial community. Maybe, "Why this company? Why is this happening?" It will be necessary to prepare an answer that will make a strong impression. Personally, I recommend that you keep an interested eye on recent news or trends about the company. Q5. What would be some helpful advice you could give when conducting an interview? A5. You should not be afraid to ask questions. As a foreigner, if you listened to the interviewer incorrectly during the interview, it would be more advantageous to respectfully ask for another question and give the correct answer rather than to panic and give the wrong answer. Confidence is important in interviews, and the interviewer values confidence. After the interview, you often ask the applicant if he or she has any questions, and it would be a good idea to prepare one or two questions. It would be better if the questions revealed that the applicant is interested in the company and the industry. It would be better to avoid questions about salary or benefits. It would also be good to take some time to think about it for a while when you are asked too difficult questions. You can also get a good score because you will get a glimpse of your self-confidence in not being afraid of silence about the applicant who answers in the right direction. □ implications Work visa essential for working in the U.S - A short-term work visa is H1, which allows professionals to legally work in the United States for three years (extended by an additional three years and up to six years). A person with a bachelor's degree or higher or equivalent qualification may have a short-term employment in a professional job in the United States in relation to his or her major. - U.S. Government Gives More Opportunities to Professional Workers in 4 STEM Areas * S: Science T: Technology E: Engineering M: Mathematics - H1 비자 신청가능 직군의 예: Computer Programming, Software Engineering, Design, Merchandising, Production Advertising, Accounting, Logistics, Jewelry Design, Health Care, Architecture, Marketing, Hotel Management, Engineering 등으로 컴퓨터, 공학 관련 분야가 많음. - Promising jobs in the U.S. are IT/Computer, accounting for more than 80% of the recently approved H-1B visa jobs Although fewer companies provide visa sponsors, it is not impossible to get a job in the United States if acquisition of expertise in related fields, language learning, strategic support, and research on companies that want to apply are preceded. - It's important to set clear goals and build a relevant career ㅇ You can look for employment opportunities through headhunting companies. - The headhunting company does not require a fee from the job seeker, but receives a service fee when the recruiter hires a workforce. - Job hunting through headhunting companies has the advantage of not having an economic burden on job seekers, and especially those unfamiliar with the U.S. system will be able to get useful information through headhunting companies. - Since there are many Korean companies in the United States, the demand for Korean talent recruitment is still high. If you want to find employment in Korean companies in the United States, support through Korean headhunting companies may be advantageous Online job search required -It is desirable to actively contact headhunting companies and headhunters because recruitment through the introduction of acquaintances often occurs without official job announcements - Online employment sites, homepages of companies that want to get a job, and SNS should be used Aggressive interview preparation is essential - You must have sufficient prior knowledge of the company you are applying for. - It is very important to practice answering frequently asked questions in advance during interviews.
